About

This is my guide on how you can save the Furry Fandom.

Margaret Brown, otherwise known as, the Unsinkable Molly Brown, was one of the few survivors of the RMS Titanic. She was born poor, and married a poor man for love, rather than a rich man for money. She said, “I wanted a rich man, but I loved Jim Brown.”

Molly Brown was known for her many works to improve the lives of those around her, but she is probably best known for her acts during the events surrounding the Titanic. She helped others to escape the sinking Titanic until she was forced – literally dropped into the life boat while they were lowering it – into her lifeboat – lifeboat #6. While in the boat, she repeatedly demanded that she and the other women be allowed to help man the oars and rescue other passengers. Hutchens, the man in charge, started swearing at her when she wouldn’t shut up. So she threatened to throw him overboard. She got her way.

Molly Brown’s nickname stuck for good reasons. The most obvious reason was due to her having survived the tragedy of the Titanic. But that was only the least of what made her “unsinkable”. The term also illustrated her resolve. Molly was beyond her time and she had the force of character to stand up in the face of difficult opposition until her goals were achieved.

We can learn a lot from Molly’s example. Surviving an historic tragedy did not ruin her, but solidified her place in history. The tragedy only revealed who she was to the rest of the world. We are now being faced with that same opportunity. You can show the world – and each other – that you are “unsinkable”.

The theme of DenFur is Post-Apocalyptic. That is no coincidence. The fandom – particularly in Colorado – is in rough shape. We are living in the aftermath of a failed convention that has left us in a difficult position. There are other forces at work within the fandom that are making things feel hopeless. Morale is at an all-time low. But ‘post-apocalyptic’ is a somewhat misleading term. It speaks of a great tragedy, but also suggests hope. The tragedy has passed and the future is what you make of it.

This blog is intended to bring you random nuggets of wisdom – if we can call it that – which I have accrued through personal effort. I believe that I can help make the fandom a better place, merely by exposing you to ideas. I will also try to give you practical ways by which you can apply these ideas to your everyday life with other furries. I believe that if we are all working together using practical methods to accomplish the same goal, we can achieve results that currently seem impossible. You can save the Furry Fandom through repetition with purpose.

Our convention will survive because you will survive. The fandom will survive because you are “unsinkable”.
